IPK Scientist New Member of the Indian National Academy of Agricultural Sciences
Prof. Andreas Graner IPK was elected into the Indian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) as a scientist. The President of the Academy, Prof. Panjab Singh, presented the membership certificate to the Executive Director of the IPK on 5 June 2018 in New Delhi during the 25th General Assembly of the Academy.
Prof. Graner, who heads the Institute and the Federal ex situ Gene Bank, has been honoured for his scientific achievements and his commitment to the promotion of agricultural and life sciences in India. The reason for Prof. Graner's admission speaks for itself, as was pointed out by the Academy: "Dr. Graner is a pioneer in barley genomics. His first achievements include the development of RFLP maps, large scale ESTs and EST-derived SSR and SNP markers and arrays as well as mapping of various agronomic traits. Pursuing genome wide association studies in barley, his institute has recently decoded inflorescence patterning and genetic architecture of plant stature. He was recognised as a Highly Cited Researcher by Thomson Reuters in 2015. A leader in ex situ conservation management and in Triticeae Genomics with partners in 30 different countries, Prof. Graner has played an important role both in advancing agricultural science research in India as well as development of world class human resources from India, training / employing a large number of Indian scientists / PhD Students / graduate students at IPK, Germany.”
