XVIII European Ivy League: Soccer Tournament of European Business Schools Was a Great Success
22 teams and a highly motivated organizing team made this year's European Ivy League, which took place between April 25 and 27, 2014 a unique experience.
The 18th annual European Ivy League soccer tournament of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management took place on Saturday, April 26, 2014. A total of 22 teams from top-level business schools such as Università Carlo Cattaneo, ESMT, European University Viadrina, HHL, Mannheim Business School, der Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and the University of Economics Bratislava participated in this unique sports event. The motto of the XVIII European Ivy League was "Business Meets Football" with the economic aspect of soccer being explored from various angles during the opening ceremony in particular. The soccer tournament, organized solely by HHL students, looks back on a long tradition within the HHL network and offers companies and students an excellent opportunity to get into contact with other students from all over Europe.
During an exciting final game, the HHL team was narrowly defeated by the University of Economics Bratislava with a score of 2:1. Bratislava's second team won against a Leipzig team during the third place match as well. The HHL cheerleading team caused quite a stir and motivated the teams to once again give peak performances before the final game.
David Füßer, M.Sc. student and organizer of the event, says in retrospect, "The European Ivy League inspired participants and guests in its 18th year with a restructured concept. I would like to thank the team of organizers who made this year's soccer competition an unforgettable event for all the participants, of which many have already announced their attendance for next year."
The XVIII European Ivy League weekend was kicked with a barbecue on the HHL campus at Sportforum as well as the official opening ceremony in the Business Lounge of the Red Bull Arena across the street. The 'Official European Ivy League Party' at L1 Leipzig on Saturday night marked the final highlight of the event. Following the festive award ceremony, the participants celebrated their successes and experiences until the early morning hours. The tournament weekend came to an end with the traditional farewell brunch at Restaurant Barfusz on Sunday where everyone was able to refuel for the trip home.
The XVIII European Ivy League was sponsored by the HHL Alumni Association e.V., Stern Stewart & Co., Schwartauer Werke GmbH & Co. KG, Wendl GmbH, Geldermann Sekt andTrikot.com.
