The architect Frei Otto is dead.
According to his family the great architect and designer of lightweight construction with "natural structures" died on Monday, March the 9th, 2015, at the age of 89 years. He created, among other things, the tent roof of the Olympic Stadium in Munich.
Frei Otto is next to Richard Buckminster Fuller (USA) and Santiago Calatrava (Spain) one of the most important representatives of a biomorphic architecture and ecologically oriented architecture. His work as an architect, architectural theorist and professor made him one of the most important architects of the 20th century. His work has approval for a new design in the 21st century.
Prof. Wolfram Ressel, Rector of the University of Stuttgart, said today to the death of Frei Otto: "In our grief mingles the joy at the news that Frei Otto posthumously should receive the Pritzker Prize, the "Nobel Prize of Architecture"."
