Leuphana Offers Unique Study Program on Human Rights
Establishing and protecting human rights stand at the center of a new extra-occupational master's degree program at Leuphana University of Lüneburg.
From October of this year, students can study towards the qualification in Governance and Human Rights offered by a master’s program at the Professional School of the University, which prepares them for positions in international organizations, development aid or non-governmental organizations. A first insight into this program is provided for those interested in studying it at an online information session on April 29, 2015, starting at 15:00 MET.
“This Master program possesses a worldwide unique format. No other study program explicitly takes up global problems of human rights and develops practical strategies to protect them”, thus Professor Dr. Anja Mihr sums up her conviction. The focus of this course taught in English is responsible governance, referred to as the “Science of Governance” in scholarly works. The program aims at imparting governance principles, with whose help human rights can be established and secured within the context of development aid and cooperation.
This four-semester course is organized as distance learning: Lectures and seminars are held mainly as e-learning units. The attendance phases are bundled in three two-week blocks. An important component of the course is the practical application of knowledge: Students develop, therefore, a separate project on human rights or governance during the study period already. They also organize a special conference on a topic of their choice at the end of their course
Applications will be accepted until August 15, 2015. EUR 9,500 are charged as tuition fees. In addition to the Leuphana Professional School, the Humboldt-Viadrina Governance Platform gGmbH and other partners also contribute to the program. The Volkswagen Foundation affords financial support to the development of the program of study.
For those interested in studying on this course, an online information session provides the opportunity to learn more and in greater detail about the program and to find out more about the organization and procedure of these extra-occupational studies. Professor Mihr is available to answer participants’ questions. The possibility to register for the event, as well as further information on the Master Governance and Human Rights, can be found at www.leuphana.de/gahr
