In 2013, the non-university research institutions in Germany spent approximately 11.9 billion euros on research and development. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 4.6% on 2012. In the same period, the number of people working in these research and development institutions (full-time equivalents) rose by 2.4% to 98,200.
