Call for Papers: Umkleide - Fashion, Aesthetics, Sustainability. A Green Bauhaus Series
New interdisziplinary Journal - Umkleide - discusses Sustainability in Fashion.
The scientific journal for culture and design Umkleide discusses New Designing and Fashion Footprints, – it creates space for reflection on the ecological, social, economical, communicative and aesthetic role of fashion, for discussion on the functions, developments and experiences of aesthetics, and poses questions that define the goals of designing Sustainable Development.
Sustainable Development is an integral and formative factor in the world of fashion and design as well as in social awareness and a showcase for creatively committed design. The focus lies on the phenomena of accelerated modernisation and its social and intercultural effects regarding the constant inter-relation of fashion and the aesthetisization of the world and actuality of our being.
Interdisciplinary views, wide thematic scope and inspiring contributions from diverse fields are welcome. Corporeality and personality development in a Modernism between identification and transnationality, sustainability and scarcity, as well as craft, industry and culture will be fundamental coordinates.
„Limited“
The topic of the new issue shows phenomena of the conformably accelerated society in the constrained search for individuality and singular decelerated examples of fashion and design, something new beyond the aesthetic obsolescence and exploitation of resources.
Limited is the earth's ecosystem – an exclusive design-object to increase the own uniqueness – language in the attempt to name the latest sociocultural phenomena – the scope and validity of many an ecological-innovative idea in a dominantly capitalist society – the durability of mass-produced goods – the framework for action to respect the intrinsic value of nature – the staging of corporeality.
Practioners and theorists – designers, photographers, illustrators, fashion creators and critics, philosophers, satirists, realists, artists – all introduce latest tendencies and developments as well as innovative measures and solutions. The new issue „Limited“ publishes text contributions (such as discussions, research reports, interviews or essays) as well as posters, illustrations and photographic series. Design-strategies and transfer thinking are requested.
Abstract and proposed topic – in German or English – together with a short biography and information on the expected length and the intended date of submission are to be sent to the editors by 15th June 2015. Deadline for the final contribution: 15th August 2015
