Ulrich Paschedag new vice-president of TFH Georg Agricola
The University of Applied Sciences, TFH Georg Agricola in Bochum, has a new member on its executive committee: the management of DMT-LB, a company for teaching and education that owns the TFH, has announced Mining Engineer Prof. Dr. Ulrich Paschedag as the new Vice-President of the Faculty of Geo-Engineering, Mining and Technical Business Management. By doing so, the management follows the proposal made by the University Council of the TFH which has recommended Mr. Paschedag as the successor of Prof. Dr. Christoph Dauber. Professor Dauber, after having completed his second term of office which he has held since 2009, is leaving his post at his own request.
“We are very happy that we have been able to add a renowned expert with long-standing experience in the relevant industry to the university staff,” comments Prof Dr Jürgen Kretschmann, Managing Director of DMT-LB, on Mr. Paschedag taking office. “Mr. Paschedag will help us to reinforce our practical focus in teaching and research even further. His excellent management qualities will be of additional benefit to the university’s management as will be his extended network of contacts in the international mining industry.”
Prof. Dr. Paschedag stated “I would like to thank the management of DMT-LB for the trust that they are placing in me with the appointment as the Vice-President of the TFH, and I intend to continue the excellent work of my predecessor Christoph Dauber. My aim is to expand the collaboration with the industry when it comes to research and development. My numerous contacts, national and international, to partners at companies and universities will certainly assist me in this. They will also be of benefit to the students to whom we teach state-of-the-art engineering and technical know-how, that will make them fit for the 21st century. I am very interested in a collaboration across disciplines, in particular with the colleagues of Mechanical & Process Engineering and Electrical Engineering as well as Information Technology.”
On August 31st, 2015, Ulrich Paschedag was appointed to the TFH as a Professor for International Mining. Prior to this position, he had held different executive positions in the business area of underground mining machinery for Caterpillar Global Mining, a leading provider of equipment and machines; his last position there was Global Product Manager for Underground Mining Equipment. Furthermore, he had been on the supervisory board of Caterpillar Global Mining Europe GmbH. At Caterpillar and its predecessors over more than 23 years, i.e. Bucyrus, DBT, Westfalia Becorit and Gewerkschaft Eisenhütte Westfalia Lünen, Paschedag had been significantly involved in the development and marketing of innovative mining technology for the underground mining of coal and hard rock since 1991. After he completed his studies of mining engineering at the RWTH Aachen University, he became a research assistant at the mining research programme of the Bergbau-Forschung GmbH and, based on his work there, he wrote his PhD dissertation at the Technical University in Berlin, which he completed in 1990, on activated cutting technology in hard-coal mining. His dissertation was already shaped by the close ties between academic and industrial practice, ties that have continued to accompany the professional career of the TFH’s new Vice-President.
