Prof. Bräuer, head of the Fraunhofer IST, received the K-T Rie award
Prof. Dr. Günter Bräuer received the K-T Rie Award for his achievements in the field of applied plasma research at this year's Asian-European International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering (AEPSE), which took place in Jeju, Korea, from 11 to 15 September 2017.
The award honors the scientific life of the promoted physicist: his contribution to the promotion of applied plasma science and technology, not only in Asia but worldwide. ʺThis award means a lot to meʺ, rejoices Bräuer. ʺIt shows me that my activities are perceived and appreciated. ʺ For 20 years, the plasma expert has also been personally committed for the Asian-European cooperation in his field of research in Korea. Prior to his function as head of the Fraunhofer IST from 1999, Bräuer was a development manager at Leybold Systems GmbH. As an important scientific advisor and promoter, Bräuer has been supporting the Asian Joint Committee for applied plasma science and engineering (AJC-APSE) since the first AEPSE in 1997 with the conception and organization of the conference.
After Prof. PhD. Jeon Han, the founder of the AEPSE, Bräuer is the second winner of the K-T Rie Award and the first European to receive this award. The K-T Rie Award, named after the former head of the Institute of Surface Engineering at the TU Braunschweig and co-founder of the conference, Prof. Dr. Kyong-Chong Rie, was launched in 2015 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the conference, and is now awarded every two years at the AEPSE.
