Heinz Schuler receives 2017 German Psychology Prize
Professor Heinz Schuler receives the German Psychology Prize 2017 for his pioneering work in work and organizational psychology, particularly personnel psychology and aptitude diagnostics.
“In times of labor shortage, it is the aptitude diagnostics that enables us to detect peoples´ talents that otherwise may remain undiscovered”, states the winner of the 2017 prize, Professor Heinz Schuler. He is awarded the German Psychology Prize on October 24th, 2017, at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities for his work in the field of personnel psychology and aptitude diagnostics.
For over four decades Heinz Schuler has been investigating how people and professions fit together. With his groundbreaking work he could show in which ways job performance, satisfaction and health of job candidates can be predicted based on their personality traits. Until today, many of the aptitude diagnostic methods that Heinz Schuler developed have a wide application in personnel recruitment and job counselling. His Multimodal Interview is the most applied structural recruitment interview in German language. His Achievement Motivation Inventory was translated in more than a dozen languages and is applied worldwide.
The German Psychology Prize, worth 10.000 euros, is awarded every two years. The „Berufsverband Deutscher Psychologinnen und Psychologen“ (BDP), the „Bundespsychotherapeutenkammer“ (BPtK), the „Christoph-Dornier-Stiftung“ (CDS) and the „Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie“ (DGPs) award the prize to honor outstanding achievements in psychological research that are of high practical relevance.
