Digital Twin meets Plug & Produce – Fraunhofer IPK at the IMTS in Chicago
Hannover Messe is expanding to the USA – and Fraunhofer IPK is joining in with a trendsetting exhibit. It combines fast and flexible design and application of the shopfloor IT with a digital twin, which ensures transparency even in complex production systems.
For the first time ever, Deutsche Messe organizes a Hannover Messe brand event outside of Germany – and Fraunhofer IPK is taking part. At the booth of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft at »Hannover Messe USA«, which takes place in conjunction with the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) from 10 to 15 September 2018, the Berlin Fraunhofer IPK will present a flexible control system for smart factories: the modular Shopfloor IT. The IPK solution allows for easy, fast, flexible and cross-trades development, implementation and maintenance of the shopfloor IT. The goal is »Plug & Produce«: Each newly purchased production facility should be connected to an existing production network with its own control, and function smoothly within the network from the very first moment. To achieve this, the modular Shopfloor IT links an adapter to the proprietary machine control system to ensure interoperability with, for example, higher order control systems.
In addition, the combination with a digital twin, which reflects the structure and behavior of entire production plants, facilitates early plant adjustments for the manufacture of newly developed products, all the way to ensuring faultless production operation. At IMTS, we will demonstrate how the digital twin can be used to display production data contextually in an employee’s field of vision, for example via a head-mounted display for the line manager.
