Digital Society Conference 2018 – Empowering Ecosystems December 10-11, 2018 at ESMT Berlin
December 10-11, 2018 the Digital Society Conference 2018 – Empowering Ecosystems is taking place at ESMT Berlin. The two-day conference includes panels, presentations, and workshops from many different perspectives such as science, industry, and politics.
This year’s conference will cover new developments in security and privacy, digital politics, and industrial strategies. A particular focus will be the reality of the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), including its societal implications and how to understand and harness the battle for AI dominance. Another topics is the role and power of platforms.
On December 10, ESMT President Prof. Jörg Rocholl and Dr. Sandro Gaycken, Director of the Digital Society Institutes, will open the conference. They will be followed by keynotes by Ambassador Dr. Thomas Fitschen, Special Representative for International Cyber Foreign Policy and Cyber Security at the German Federal Foreign Office; Holger Friedrich, Managing Director at CORE; and the author Evgeny Morozov.
The second day of the conference starts with a keynote by Bruce Schneier, Chief Technology Officer at IBM Resilient and Special Advisor at IBM Security. In the afternoon, participants have the opportunity to experience Prof. Allan Dafoe, Director of the Governance of AI Program at the Future of Humanity Institute at the University of Oxford, as well as a panel on “Mapping AI Development for Global Governance.”
