Sustainable packaging a challenge for design
Consumer perception is key to the success of innovative packaging
The 12th Round Table of the Cofresco Forum entitled “Sustainability and Design: Meeting Consumer Expectations for Food Packaging” will be held on 8 May 2019. International researchers and companies will be presenting their latest research findings on consumer needs and acceptance. They will also be presenting and inviting the audience to discuss new packaging materials and methods to enhance shelf life. This year’s Round Table will be hosted jointly with the renowned UK research organisation Campden BRI and held at their headquarters in Chipping Campden.
The challenge for design
Design is an important element for achieving consumer acceptance: not only does it have to sell sustainability, it also has to ensure ease and convenience of use. These challenges and opportunities will be discussed during the lectures of the 12th Round Table. Or to put it in a nutshell: How can design help enhance sustainability as well as sensory perception while also being ergonomic?
Latest research findings and hands-on experience
The lectures will be accompanied by an extensive practical session. This will offer participants an insight into the current research of Campden BRI and an opportunity to test the influence of design on ease-of-handling themselves. In particular, they will be able to test the effects that age or illness can have on handling and strength in order to appreciate the ergonomic challenges. In the subsequent guided discussion, the conflict areas regarding sustainability and design for the packaging of various food items will be examined in more detail.
Participation in the Round Table is free.
The conference language is English.
