Ed Hawkins Warming Stripes on the Roof of the German Maritime Museum
Climate change is currently one of mankind's most important and most discussed problems. Whether coal withdrawal or Fridays for Future movement: The topic is present in the media and in research like never before. The 25th World Climate Conference (COP 25) will take place in Madrid from 2 to 13 December 2019. The motto is #TimeForAction. In accordance with this, the German Maritime Museum (DSM) / Leibniz Institute for Maritime History is showing the special exhibition "SEA CHANGES - World & Sea in Transition", which focuses on the influence of climate change on the planet sea and highlights the enormous effects on polar regions, shipping and ecosystems.
A frequently used motif in the Fridays and Scientists for Future demonstrations are the Warming Stripes by British climatologist Ed Hawkins. These show the increasing warming of the climate since 1850. The barcode indicates the average temperature of the world's climate. The Warming Stripes are also part of the projection on the roof of the DSM in Bremerhaven (westermann kulturprojekte mit Kurt Laurenz Theinert). The media installation accompanies the new special exhibition daily from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m..
