Planning Lab "Spatial Imaginaries Lusatia 2050 – designing sustainable transformation": call for tender
As part of the BMBF project "Scientific support of the transformation process in Lusatia Region" of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Ecological and Revitalizing Urban Transformation (IZS) in Görlitz, a planning lab will develop spatial visions for the future of the transforming region from March 2021. Applications are open to interested participants until 8 February 2021.
The planning lab "Spatial Imaginaries Lusatia 2050 - designing sustainable transformation" invites interdisciplinary design teams to develop visions for the future regional development. The planning lab will be organised as a cooperative process and will establish a close exchange between external planning teams, scientists and regional experts within the context of three events.
The aim is to integrate discussions about the spatial development potential of Lusatia into the structural change process and to reflect planning conditions for shaping the transformation process in the coal phase-out. The cooperative planning lab is based on different approaches to strategic planning. It focuses on the spatial implications of the existing strategies for Lusatia in order to strengthen the path of sustainable regional development on this basis.
In implementing the planning laboratory, the IOER / IZS works closely with the planning actors in Brandenburg and Saxony, who support the process and are important partners in the further use of the results.
The IZS team is also supported by KARO* architekten from Leipzig, who accompany the process with their expertise and are the direct contacts for the participants.
Applications for participation in the planning lab are open to interdisciplinary teams from the fields of urban and regional planning, architecture, landscape architecture and other relevant disciplines. Further information on the application procedure can be found in the announcement.
Background
What comes after lignite? In Lusatia, many questions arise in connection with the planned energy transition. The region will once again face the challenge of wide-ranging socio-economic, ecological and cultural change at a structural level. Yet alongside these numerous difficulties, Lusatia also has an opportunity to realize a comprehensive process of transformation towards sustainable lifestyles and economic forms. The aim of the project "Transformation Lusatia" is to identify and promote the potential for transformation in Lusatia. Proposals for the organization of a successful structural change will be developed on a scientific basis.
The project is mainly carried out in the Interdisciplinary Centre for Ecological and Revitalizing Urban Transformation (IZS) in Görlitz, a joint research facility of the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) and the International Institute Zittau of the Technische Universität Dresden.
The project will run from October 2018 to September 2021 and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
