Effects of a lower income on the standard of living
Can households maintain their standards of living when self-employed household members experience income cuts? Dr. Stefan Schneck (IfM Bonn) examined this question and placed the results in the context of the Corona crisis. One central result: about half of the self-employed households can no longer maintain their standard of living if the self-employed income declines by 37%.
Full-time self-employed people are usually the main earners in their households. In the context of the current Corona crisis, calculations were therefore made on the consequences of income losses in the household context. According to these calculations, a 37% drop in income leads to restrictions in the standard of living for half of the self-employed households. In view of the economic consequences of the current pandemic, some considerable effects on self-employed households are therefore to be expected.
