Business development during Corona
How has the Covid 19 pandemic affected businesses? How have government support measures influenced economic dynamics? Prof. Dr Erik Stam and Jasper van Dijk (both Utrecht University School of Economics/Netherlands) answer these questions in the recent Policy Brief "Entrepreneurship in Focus" using the example of entrepreneurial development in the Netherlands in 2020.
During the large economic contraction in the Netherlands caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of bankruptcies surprisingly fell. But this is only part of the story. If we look at business exits we still see many businesses that stop. At the same time, the number of firm entries is historically high. Overall there has been a net increase in the number of businesses in 2020 in the Netherlands.
The article "Entrepreneurial Dynamics in the Netherlands 2020" has been published in the Policy Brief series "Entrepreneurship in Focus" of the IfM Bonn and the Förderkreis Gründungs-Forschung.
