Scientific conferences

Media representatives can now register for the 71st Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (Chemistry). For capacity reasons (indoor event/ pandemic precaution), journalists, bloggers and science influencers will be able to follow the programme online via livestream also this year. Interviews and background discussions with participating Nobel Laureates and young scientists will be possible.

Around 30 Nobel Laureates have confirmed their participation in the meeting. They will play a major role in shaping the programme from Sunday, 26 June, to Friday, 1 July 2021, and will exchange ideas with probably more than 500 young scientists from all over the world.

The agenda includes current issues in chemistry that not only revolve around science and research, but also affect the economy, politics and society: e.g., artificial intelligence in chemistry or greener chemical production. The visit of the two recently awarded Nobel Laureates is awaited with particular excitement: Benjamin List and David W.C. MacMillan received the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis.

Structure of the 71st Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting

The programme starts on Sunday, 26 June at 11.30 hrs, with an opening ceremony. From 14.30 hrs, David McMillan will give his first lecture in Lindau. This will be followed by the opening panel discussion on "Trust in Science, Trust in Chemistry". The opening day ends with a concert before the social programme starts for the participants in Lindau. After two years with the pandemic, there will be many opportunities for personal exchange and encounters between scientists of all nations, generations and cultures in a relaxed atmosphere.

On the following four days, the Lindau Inselhalle will host a variety of programme formats such as lectures, panel discussions, Agora Talks and Next Gen Science Sessions, supplemented by the popular Science Walks and Laureate Lunches. On the closing day (1 July) with the traditional boat trip to Mainau Island, the topic of “Diversity in Research” will be on the agenda.
