Diplomas 22: ZHdK students present their diplomas projects
Vernissage on Thursday, 9 June 2022, 5 p.m., in the Toni-Areal
Media release. At the end of their studies at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), the diploma students present their work in the fields of art education, design, film, fine arts, music, dance, theatre, transdisciplinarity and continuing education in numerous events. One of the highlights of Diplome 22 will be the vernissage of the diploma exhibition on Thursday, 9 June 2022, 5 pm, in the Toni-Areal.
It's here again, this intense time of diplomas - and with it a full programme of events at the Toni-Areal: around 600 students are preparing to present their final theses. On Thursday, 9 June, 5 pm, Rector Thomas D. Meier will open the diploma exhibition in the large concert hall of the Toni-Areal. Afterwards, the public is invited to discover the diploma projects at the exhibition (10-24 June), film screenings, concerts, dance and theatre performances.
The graduation projects provide an insight into the artistic and creative exploration of a wide range of topics. Some examples:
Natasha Sebben (BA Game Design): "Psychotic Bathtub"
The project deals with a psychotic illness in a very small space, in which the players experience different courses of events.
Nura Eissa (BA Film, Production Design): "High and Dry"
The diploma film uses models and abstractions to show the spatial and cinematic effects of planned and partly realised residential and holiday buildings in the Egyptian desert.
Nils Lou Lauper (BA Theatre, Stage Design), Mario Fuchs (BA Design, Cast/Audiovisual Media): "River Fragments"
This transdisciplinary diploma project focuses on the power of water. A visual prologue on Instagram, a live performance in the Wasserkirche Zurich and a podcast combine to create a three-part production.
Roxane Choux (MA Specialised Music Performance - soloist, vocals): "Joy"
The vocal performance celebrates the joy of being alive.
Lida Doumouliaka (MA Dance, Choreography): "The sacrifice: Kintic Orchestra".
The choreography is about the question of how dancers represent a musical orchestra while each of them represents a musical instrument.
Cynthia Stucki (MA Art Education, Curatorial Studies): "Toward New Horizons. Modes of Activism in Art Institutions".
This paper explores how art institutions are increasingly solidarising with social struggles and becoming sites of political expression.
Pascale Schreibmüller (MA Transdisciplinarity): "Quellkörper. An Assembly of BodyKnowledge"
Texts, sound and performances show how emotion becomes action and a new way of seeing and paying attention emerges.
Yumna Al-Arashi (MA Fine Arts): "13769"
Al-Arashi creates a growing sculpture of a conversation at a distance between her and her father. Because of Executive Order 13769, her Yemeni father was not allowed to travel to Europe or the US.
Alexandra Bättig (MAS Strategic Design): "Hurray hybrid!?"
Design Doing and Design Thinking are used to explore how designers of a hybrid working world can support teams in particular to find their own solutions.
