TU9 at GAIN22 in Bonn
TU9, the Alliance of leading Technical Universities in Germany, will be represented at the an-nual conference and talent fair of the German Academic International Network (GAIN) with several events from September 2 to 4, 2022. In workshops, discussion panels, and at the Tal-ent Fair, TU9 representatives will provide advice on funding opportunities and career paths at TU9 Universities.
TU9 President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfram Ressel, Rector of the University of Stuttgart, is looking forward to the personal exchange in Bonn after the last two virtual GAIN meetings: “GAIN22 offers great opportunities to meet not only talented scientists from all disciplines, but also del-egates from German science and politics. It is particularly gratifying that TU9 will again be rep-resented in numerous events at GAIN22, which is being held in Germany for the first time, as well as at the Talent Fair.”
In the “Forum: Natural Sciences and Engineering” (Sept. 2, 3:30 p.m.), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfram Ressel will speak with Dr. Jorge A. Quiané-Ruiz, Computer Science TU Berlin/German Re-search Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), and with other professors at various career lev-els from the natural sciences and engineering as well as with entrepreneurship experts about their personal and institutional experiences with different career options and opportunities.
In the workshop “Networking from Abroad for a Call to Germany” (Sept. 3, 10:00 a.m.), Prof. Dr. Angela Ittel, President of the Technical University of Braunschweig and designated TU9 President, will speak together with other representatives of German universities on the topic of networking from abroad, experiences, expectations, and the right strategies for preparing to return to Germany.
In the interactive TU9 workshop “Appointment: Application, Procedure, Dos and Don’ts” (Sept. 4, 9:00 a.m.), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfram Ressel and Dr. iur. Yvonne Dorf, Managing Director of the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers (DHV), will explain the appointment modalities at Technical Universities. The workshop participants will learn important dos and don’ts and which prerequisites are necessary for a successful application regarding the strate-gic orientation of technical and scientific subjects to succeed in the appointment process.
The workshop “The Tenure-Track Professorship in Germany” (Sept. 3, 2:00 p.m.) offers partici-pants the opportunity to talk with Prof. Dr. Angela Ittel and funded tenure-track professors such as Prof. Dr. Alina Machner, TT Prof. of the TU Munich, and other representatives of German universities.
In addition, TU9 representatives will participate in other workshops such as “Individual Career Paths in Science – Actively Shaping Career Phases and Transitions while Taking Funding Op-portunities into Account” (Sept. 3, 10:00 a.m.), “Leading and Being Led in Science” (Sept. 3, 10:00 a.m.), “Insights into Appointment Procedures: Dos and Don’ts” (Sept. 4, 10:00 a.m.), “Founding as a Career Opportunity” (Sept. 4, 10:45 a.m.) and “Postdocs in the Strategic Focus of Universities and Optimal Negotiations for Initial Appointments” (Sept. 4, 10:45 a.m.).
Seven TU9 Universities will present themselves at this year’s Talent Fair and will be available to answer any questions participants may have: Technische Universität Berlin (as part of the Berlin University Alliance), Technische Universität Braunschweig, Technical University of Darmstadt, Technische Universität Dresden, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Technical Uni-versity of Munich, and University of Stuttgart.
