Director Jan-Eric Mack is awarded the prix netzhdk
The prix netzhdk, worth CHF 10,000 and funded by the alumni organisation of the Zurich University of the Arts ZHdK, is awarded this year to Jan-Eric Mack.
“I’m a filmmaker and I like to tell stories”. This is the unpretentious description of his profession offered up by Swiss filmmaker Jan-Eric Mack (*1983). He made several award-winning short films already during his studies at ZHdK, and they were shown at over 100 festivals across the world. His Master film “Facing Mecca” won a Student Academy Award in 2017 and the Swiss Film Prize in 2018, and it even got onto the Oscar shortlist for the 90th Academy Awards in the category “Live Action Shorts”. In 2018, Mack co-directed the second season of the SRF TV series Wilder. In 2020, he also assumed the direction of its third season. He is currently busy with pre-production for the espionage series Davos for Swiss TV, for which shooting will begin this coming winter. Jan-Eric Mack lives in Zurich and works as a freelance writer and director.
Attitude, pragmatism and courage
Mack’s work is now being honoured with the prix netzhdk. The exact date of the award ceremony will be communicated at a later date. The jury especially emphasised Mack’s independence, his willingness to take risks and his ability to work in a team, alongside his artistic attitude and his own view of societal issues. The jury also found Mack’s sensitivity for film music and sound design particularly interesting.
