Propaganda Narrative Soundscapes - deconstructing propaganda through data and art
On February 2-5, 2023 Bremen (Tor40, Güterbahnhof) will host an exhibition dedicated to countering propaganda through art and data research.
Edit Wars, an international team of data journalists and media artists, has researched hundreds of thousands of Russian propaganda media headlines and created an interactive spatial installation, Propaganda narrative soundscapes.
The Russian state's exploitation of images of the Cold War, the energy crisis, historical associations in the invasion of Ukraine and the monopolization of the information space is deconstructed through analysis of linguistic means, statistics, visual, sound images and projection mapping.
We invite to the exhibition a wide audience, journalists, the artistic and academic community and everyone who is interested in the development of critical thinking and appreciates the freedom of the media. We close it with a discussion on data and art collaborations as a new way to counteract propaganda.
The study is available at https://editwars.org/
The artwork is developed by the students of Digital Media, Hochschule für Künste Bremen: Slava Romanov, Alberto Harres, Liudmila Savelyeva and Antonio Hofmeister Ribeiro, with the expert support of professors Andrea Sick, Dennis Paul, Ralf Baecker, Asli Serbest, Peter von Maydell, Petra Klusmeyer, Raphael Sbrzesny.
The project was realized as a part of the Mediafutures art residency and was a winner of the Artists for Media track. It has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 951962.
