Success for the Zurich Dance Academy at the 50th Prix de Lausanne
Giuseppe Ventura (18), a student of the Zurich Dance Academy (taZ), has been honoured at the Prix de Lausanne.
Giuseppe Ventura from Italy captivated the international jury at the Prix de Lausanne (29 January to 5 February 2023) with his classical and contemporary variations, winning the scholarship of the Jean-François and Marie-Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre Foundation. This scholarship will enable Ventura to dance for a year with any partner company of the Prix de Lausanne and will cover all his costs for the year.
Haruka Tanabe (18) from Japan also took part in the competition and reached the final round.
Nicholas Mihlar (18) from Canada was one of five finalist teams nominated for the “Young Creation Award”, for his choreography “Rotting Strawberry”, performed by Liam Strickland (18) from Australia/UK. These teams were chosen out of a total of 56 choreographies submitted from all over the world.
Giuseppe Schillaci (16) from Italy took part in the “Choreographic Project” – a workshop run in parallel to the competition, in which participants from the partner schools of the Prix de Lausanne collaborated with the choreographer Goyo Montero to develop and perform a work of their own, entitled “BOLD”.
The Prix de Lausanne was founded in 1973 and has since then become a springboard for aspiring professional dancers from all over the world. A total of 82 candidates were selected to participate in the 50th edition of the Prix, of whom 22 reached the final round.
Jason Beechey, a member of the Interim Management Team of taZ and Rector of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, provided commentary on the competition in a live stream for Arte.
