Together with University of Gloucestershire (UoG), the german University of Applied Sciences (FHM) has developed the Bachelor B.Sc. Psychology, which will be offered as a dual degree at FHM Bielefeld from October 2023. Within this international program, students achieve two degrees in three years of study - the B.Sc. Psychology (Clinical Psychology) from FHM and the B.Sc. Psy-chology (Clinical & Psychotherapy) from University of Gloucestershire. Applications are already possible - students should have a fluent command of English as well as the Abitur.
The program takes place in both German and English in lectures at the FHM campus in Bielefeld and at the University of Gloucestershire. "Those who complete this study program will benefit from the expertise of the international professors at the University of Glouces-tershire and FHM," said Professor Dr. Silke Springensguth, Scientific Director of the study program.
The polyvalent program teaches the basic subjects of psychology such as general psy-chology, social, developmental, differential and personality psychology as well as biological psychology. The clinical modules include the theory of disorders, the classification of men-tal disorders and their therapy, including psychopharmacology, and the teaching of diag-nostic skills. In practice, students can apply the theoretical knowledge directly during their studies in the course of their three practical assignments and get to know the professional field under real conditions at an early stage.
With this degree, graduates fulfill the requirements of the Law on the Profession of Psycho-therapist (PsychThG) and the associated Licensing Regulations for Psychotherapists (PsychThApprO). In terms of content, the program covers all modules required for admis-sion to a university Master's program in Clinical Psychology in Germany. According to the PsychThG, a university master's degree is a prerequisite for the state examination for li-censure as a psychotherapist. With their degree, graduates can apply for such a master's program at a university. These master's programs are usually limited in terms of admis-sion. The universities offering the programs decide on admission.
FHM and UoG have been working closely together for more than ten years, starting in 2009 with the offer of a part-time doctoral program. In June 2021, the two universities jointly founded the Institute for Cybercrime and Digital Innovation in Düren, and in early 2022, the joint multi-university campus FHM Düren was added here, which the two have been jointly operating ever since. It is the first multi-university campus of a British and a German uni-versity.
