Which are the next walls to fall in science and society? For the 15th time, the Falling Walls Science Summit brought together outstanding international scientists and decision-makers from politics, business, media, and society in Berlin. The renowned science conference, which has been organized by the Falling Walls Foundation since 2009, takes place annually from 7 to 9 November with the aim of showing society the potential of science in tackling the greatest challenges of our time.
This year, over 1,300 guests attended the Summit, while the digital livestream recorded a further 15,000 event visits from 149 countries. The Summit programme included almost 150 pitches from young scientists, science start-ups and science engagers on 7 November, 18 roundtable discussions and four symposia on 8 November, as well as 20 talks from the winners of this year's Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year title and renowned international researchers on 9 November. Among the main topics of the programme were the future of climate policy, the impact of AI on science and education, the solar energy transition, the development of quantum technologies and founding from research. The laureates of the Falling Walls title presented solutions in the areas of food security, quantum technology, decarbonization, gender-based violence and democratization of AI.
