Cutting-edge research in plant sciences
Scientists at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam Science Park are among the most cited scientists in the world!
Every year, the Clarivate Group identifies the most cited scientists in various research fields as a key indicator of the researchers' scientific influence and success. This year, the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (MPI-MP) shines with 6 colleagues who have made it into the 0.1% of the world's most cited scientists.
As in previous years, the MPI-MP has five of the 189 scientists honored in the research field of plant and animal sciences. Alisdair Fernie unravels central metabolic pathways in plants. Ralph Bock, one of the Institute's directors, conducts research on plant organelles and links these findings to biotechnological and ecophysiological topics. John Lunn and Mark Stitt are working intensively on the regulation of plant metabolism, photosynthesis and plant growth, while the associated research group of Potsdam University Professor Bernd-Müller Röber is working on plant signaling networks. We are particularly happy that the newly appointed director of the institute, Caroline Gutjahr, has been awarded in the subject "Cross-Field". She investigates the complex symbiosis between plants and fungi in the soil. "I am very excited about this news and about being part of a plant research institute that enjoys such high international recognition. Of course, we congratulate all our colleagues at the institute and all other researchers at the Max Planck Society who received these awards," says Caroline Gutjahr.
The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam is one of the world's leading institutions for plant research. It conducts basic research in the fields of plant physiology, genetics, epigenetics and plant-microbe interaction with the aim of gaining a comprehensive understanding of the growth and development of plants and their interactions with the environment.
In 2023, the Clarivate list includes around 7100 highly cited researchers from more than 70 countries working in various fields from agricultural to space research. Germany ranks fourth on the list with 336 highly cited researchers, 59 of whom identify as members of the Max Planck Society, which ranks 10th among scientific institutions worldwide. This means that the MPI-MP accounts for around 10% of the prizewinners in the Max Planck Society with its 86 institutes.
