Memorandum of Understanding signed with University of Saskatchewan
On December 4, 2023, the HNEE welcomed Prof. Dr. Baljit Singh, Vice President for Research at the University of Saskatchewan (USask), for the signing of a joint Memorandum of Understanding. The HNEE has been collaborating with USask for an extended period within the framework of the TRANSSECTS project - The Transdisciplinary Education Collaboration for Transformations in Sustainability, as well as in the DAAD-funded project HAW International Internationalization 2.0 to promote collaboration with biosphere reserves worldwide and the joint implementation of "Transdisciplinary International Learning Laboratories (TILLs)."
On December 4, 2023, the HNEE welcomed Prof. Dr. Baljit Singh, Vice President for Research at the University of Saskatchewan (USask), for the signing of a joint Memorandum of Understanding. The meeting took place at the StartupLab of the HNEE. In addition to the President of the HNEE, Prof. Matthias Barth, participants from the HNEE included Lena Höhne, Vice President for Student Interests, HNEE, Prof. Dr. Heike Walk, TRANSECTS Country Director Germany, Dr. Ana Filipa Ferreira, Managing Director of the Biosphere Reserves Institute, Jana Gengelbach, TRANSECTS Program Manager, Manuela Pelz, International Office, and Saleem Haddad, Research Assistant TRANSECTS. In the three-hour meeting, in addition to the signing of the MoU, further collaboration between the HNEE and USask was extensively discussed and complemented by input presentations from Prof. Barth, Prof. Walk, Dr. Ana Filipa Ferreira, and Prof. Singh.
Prof. Dr. Baljit Singh is a highly qualified researcher and educator in the field of veterinary medicine. Since 2021, he has been the Vice President for Research at the University of Saskatchewan. Previously, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary (2016-2020) and as the Associate Dean for Research at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan (2010-2016). Furthermore, he served as a Special Advisor (Experiential Learning) to the Rector (2010-2012) of the University of Saskatchewan and was a member of the advisory board for the Canadian federal research funding system.
Dr. Singh received the 3M National Teaching Fellowship (2009), the Alan Blizzard National Award for Collaboration in University Teaching and Learning (2010), the University of Saskatchewan Master Teacher Award (2008), and the Carl J. Norden Distinguished Teacher Award (2003). Additionally, he received the Outstanding Veterinary Anatomist Award from the American Association of Veterinary Anatomists (2015) and the Pfizer Award for Research Excellence (2002). He was elected as a Fellow of the American Association of Anatomists (2013) and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2018).
