Applicants must upload a CV, an annotated list of publications, and a project outline in English to the Jung Foundation website. The top three applicants will be invited to a personal interview in Hamburg on October 30, 2024. The winner will be honoured at an award ceremony in May 2025 and will have the opportunity to present their research findings at the 5th Jung Symposium ‘Excellence in Human Medicine 2025’. The Jung Foundation for Science and Research has been awarding the Jung Career Advancement Award for Medical Research since 2006, thereby promoting young talent and strengthening Germany as a centre of scientific excellence. The foundation is dedicated to the national, international, and interdisciplinary advancement of human medicine. It also awards the Jung Prize for Medicine, endowed with 300,000 euros, and the Jung Gold Medal for Medicine for lifetime achievement in medical research. With a total sum of up to 540,000 euros, the three prizes are among the highest medical awards in Europe. In addition, the Jung Foundation annually awards five fellowships in human medicine and one fellowship in the medical history at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf, as well as three German scholarships to students of human medicine in cooperation with the University of Hamburg. In total, the foundation will provide funding worth up to 650,000 euros.
