Cyberagentur: Partnering event for the development of side-channel-resistant post-quantum cryptography
Future-proof cryptography: security in the post-quantum era
On 27 November 2024, the Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur) invites experts and interested parties from the fields of cryptography and cyber security to a virtual partnering event. The focus will be on groundbreaking research results. “This will foster collaborations for the development of post-quantum cryptosystems that are resistant to side channels” emphasizes Dr. Matthias Minihold, Head of Cryptology at Cyberagentur. Hence the event offers a good opportunity to network with leading experts for a planned call for proposals for the research program.
The rapid development of powerful quantum computers poses unprecedented challenges for digital security. Many of the cryptographic methods used today could be compromised by the computing power of quantum computers in the near future. Although post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms are already being intensively investigated, physical implementations of cryptosystems still harbor the risk of so-called side-channel attacks. These attacks aim to analyze information such as power consumption, time measurements or electromagnetic emissions in order to reconstruct secret keys.
To counter these threats, the research program "Side-channel resistant post-quantum cryptology" (SCA4PQC) was initiated by the Cyberagentur. “The Goal of this ambitious program is to develop cryptographic methods that are resistant to mathematical attacks on the one hand and model common side-channel attacks conversely” explains Dr. Minihold, “where the focus is on creating efficient countermeasures that can also withstand future threats”.
As part of the virtual partnering event on 27 November 2024, from 14:00 to 16:00, participants will have the opportunity to get to know the research program and exchange ideas with leading researchers. The event offers an ideal platform to form consortia for the planned call for proposals for the research program.
Interested parties can now register for the event and actively contribute to ensuring that crypto systems remain secure in the era of quantum computers.

Background: Cyberagentur
The Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur) was founded by the German Federal Government in 2020 as a fully in-house company of the Federal Government under the joint leadership of the German Federal Ministry of Defence and the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community with the aim of adopting a cross-departmental view of internal and external security in the field of cybersecurity with a focus on application strategy. Against this backdrop, the work of the Cyberagentur is largely aimed at the institutionalized implementation of highly innovative projects that are associated with a high risk in terms of achieving the objectives, but at the same time can have a very high potential for disruption if successful.
The Cyberagentur is part of the National Security Strategy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Cyberagentur is headed by Prof Dr Christian Hummert as Research Director and Managing Director and Daniel Mayer as Commercial Director.
