Data Community Club launches in Bremen: Stronger together in managing Research Data
In science, data has long been considered one of the most valuable resources of our time. However, the full potential of research data can only be realized through responsible handling, careful storage and conscientious use. This is where the Data Community Club comes in, which was established as part of the interdisciplinary Data Competence Center for the Bremen region, DataNord, in close cooperation with the U Bremen Research Alliance and other partners.
At regular meetings - every second Wednesday of every other month - data stewards, data scientists, data champions and data enthusiasts from all scientific disciplines come together to exchange ideas, learn from each other, grow and promote advanced data-driven research.
"This network will contribute to increasing data literacy in the Bremen research community. The exchange of interdisciplinary strategies and practical approaches for the management of research data will encourage the storage of data in research repositories and make them available for reuse by others," emphasizes Prof. Dr. Frank Oliver Glöckner, spokesperson for DataNord and head of PANGAEA, the research data repository for earth and environmental sciences.
Dr. Norbert Riefler, coordinator of the Data Community Club, is also looking forward to the exchange: "My main goal is to promote Cpen Science, i.e. open access to scientific information." Dr. Riefler is responsible for establishing a structured, holistic data management system at the Leibniz-IWT by introducing tools such as an electronic lab notebook and knowledge management tools such as ontologies.
"The Data Community Club offers a unique opportunity to connect with a growing community of colleagues who share similar challenges and goals in research data management," says Dr. Tanja Hörner, coordinator of DataNord and the lead project Research Data Management and Data Science of the U Bremen Research Alliance. "Together, we accelerate the cultural change towards Open Science," adds Dr. Lena Steinmann, coordinator of DataNord and the Data Science Center at the University of Bremen. "We cordially invite all interested parties to the kick-off meeting of the Data Community Club".
