Two physicians from Leipzig University among the most cited scholars worldwide
Two researchers from Leipzig University, both experts from the Faculty of Medicine, are among the 7,131 authors who have been cited most frequently in their respective fields of research worldwide over the past decade. Clarivate Analytics publishes an annual list of the so-called Highly Cited Researchers, which is considered an important indicator of the impact of researchers and their scientific publications.
From Leipzig University these researchers are, in alphabetical order:
Professor Matthias Blüher, co-spokesperson of the Cluster of Excellence Leipzig Center of Metabolism (LeiCeM), Professor of Clinical Obesity Research at Leipzig University, Director of the Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research, and Senior Physician in Endocrinology.
Professor Florian Lordick, Director of the Department of Oncology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Pulmonology at the University of Leipzig Medical Center, Director of the Cancer Center Central Germany (CCCG), and Professor of Clinical Oncology at Leipzig University.
About the ranking
The ranking, published on 12 November 2025, is based on an analysis of the most cited papers in the Web of Science literature database. The ranking includes authors of research papers that have been among the top one per cent in their fields in the Web of Science citation index over the past decade. This year’s ranking lists 7,131 researchers from 60 countries. Germany ranks fourth, behind the United States, China and the United Kingdom.
