University of Stuttgart joins the European University Alliance EULiST
The University of Stuttgart has become a new associate member of the European University Alliance EULiST. By signing the cooperation agreement in Laapää, Finland, the university is further expanding its European network and contributing its expertise at the intersection of technology, science, and society to the alliance.
Connecting students and researchers across Europe
“Joining EULiST marks an important milestone for the University of Stuttgart,” says Rector Prof. Peter Middendorf. “The alliance's vision of bringing together science, technology, and society aligns with our mission and our commitment to connecting students and researchers across Europe. Building on our existing relationships, we aim to play an active, long-term role in EULiST – not only in the next steps, but, above all, in what we can build together in the long term."
In December 2025, the University of Stuttgart was unanimously accepted as a partner university by the alliance’s governing board. The official signing of the cooperation agreement on Tuesday in Finland now lays the groundwork for further collaboration.
Combining innovation and social responsibility
The alliance's mission closely aligns with the University of Stuttgart's profile. The focus is on the interdisciplinary integration of technological innovation and social responsibility – an approach that significantly shapes the university’s strategic direction. The cooperation opens up new opportunities for the university to engage with European institutions of higher education, enhances the international mobility of students and researchers, and promotes the joint advancement of higher education in Europe.
Having successfully laid a strong foundation through the close collaboration of its ten founding members, EULiST is now entering an ambitious phase of growth. As a Cooperation Partner, the University of Stuttgart will gradually integrate into the Alliance's ecosystem, projects, and governance structures, supporting further strategic development within the consortium.
Strong partnerships across Europe
The University of Stuttgart already maintains close ties with several member institutions of the Alliance, which will now be further strengthened through EULiST. As a European University Alliance funded by the European Union, EULiST makes an important contribution to long-term cooperation among universities in Europe.
“For EULiST, being a European University Alliance means bringing technology and society closer together by integrating STEM and the social sciences into one collaborative ecosystem. The University of Stuttgart, with its strong technical excellence and clear commitment to societal impact, is a natural partner to help us advance this mission,” says Ladislav Janicek, Chair of the EULiST Governing Board.
“With the University of Stuttgart joining the alliance, we are strengthening our ambition to shape the future of European higher education. Together, we can accelerate innovation and create lasting impact across Europe, ensuring that technological advances are closely aligned with the needs of society,” says Natia Gamkrelidze, EULiST Secretary General.
