Jung Career Advancement Award 2027: Medical Research Fellowship Endowed with €210,000
+++ Application period for the Jung Career Advancement Award 2027 now open
+++ Jung Foundation awards €210,000 to early-career physician-scientists
+++ Funding combines research and specialist medical training
Hamburg, June 2026. The independent Hamburg-based Jung Foundation for Science and Research has opened the call for applications for the Jung Career Advancement Award 2027. Early-career physicians in human medicine may apply for the fellowship, endowed with €210,000, until 15 September 2026. The funding period extends over three years and is designed to combine scientific research with clinical specialist training.
The Jung Career Advancement Award is aimed at physicians with a proven record of scientific excellence who have already gained at least two years of research experience—ideally abroad—and who wish to continue their scientific work at a German university hospital. At the same time, award recipients are expected to pursue their specialist medical training. The programme seeks to strengthen outstanding medical research in Germany and, in the long term, to promote new approaches in German research policy.
The award supports an independent research project with clear clinical relevance. During the initial funding phase, recipients are expected to be largely relieved of clinical duties for at least one year, enabling them to focus on their research activities. The Foundation subsequently provides additional protected research time alongside clinical specialist training.
Fully Online Application Process
Applications must be submitted online and in English. The following documents are required:
• A curriculum vitae in tabular format (maximum one page)
• An annotated publication list including up to three key publications
• A project outline including a timeline and work plan
• Optional: documentation of completed periods of clinical specialist training
Applicants do not need to have secured a host institution at the time of application. Following a successful selection process, the host institution will be identified jointly with the Foundation.
All application documents can be submitted directly via the Foundation’s application portal:

Finalists will be notified by 16 October 2026 and will present their research projects in person to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees in Frankfurt on 4 November 2026.
