Fachhochschule Erfurt launches English-taught Master’s degree program in "Software Engineering"
Three-semester Master of Science combines modern software development, scientific methodology and practice-oriented project work – companies from Thuringia and the region can become practice partners
Fachhochschule Erfurt is expanding its portfolio in computer science: In the winter semester 2026/27, the Department of Applied Computer Science will launch the English-taught Master’s degree program Software Engineering (M.Sc.). The three-semester program is aimed at graduates with a first degree in software engineering or with a strong focus on application development – from Germany and abroad. Companies from Thuringia and the region can participate as practice partners by contributing project tasks, topics for master’s theses and professional exchange.
At the heart of the consecutive master’s program is the development, evaluation and securing of modern software systems. Students build a holistic engineering understanding – from software architecture, quality assurance and operations to data and knowledge processing, IT security, data protection and social responsibility.
A defining feature of the program is the close connection between teaching, research and practice. In each of the first two semesters, students choose between an Enterprise Project with a practical focus and a Research Project within the academic environment of the department. In these projects, they work on real or realistic software engineering challenges. Master’s theses can also be carried out in cooperation with companies, research institutions or other practice partners.

Companies invited to become practice partners
The Department of Applied Computer Science invites companies from Thuringia and neighboring regions to support the new degree program as practice partners. Possible forms of cooperation include clearly defined enterprise projects, topics for master’s theses and further forms of professional exchange on practical questions of software development and digitalization.
For companies, cooperation offers the opportunity to bring their own challenges into an academic project environment, establish early contact with qualified international students and position themselves as partners of practice-oriented higher education in the region.
