From Space to Soil: How AI and Satellites Predict Crop Yields with Precision
How can artificial intelligence help farmers make better decisions – months before harvest? At the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), scientists have developed a technology platform that uses Earth observation data and machine learning to predict agricultural yields with remarkable accuracy.
Combining multispectral satellite imagery from the Sentinel-2 program with topographic, weather, and historical field data, the AI system delivers real-time insights into plant health, growth conditions, and expected yields – down to the level of individual plots.
In this video, we explain how the system works and what kind of potential it holds.
